As the Founder and CEO of Trinity Brands and The 3rd Space, Maclou works at the intersection of creativity, culture, commerce and community. Trinity Brands, a 100% Black-owned South African experiential marketing agency, has aimed to redefin how brands engage with audiences through immersive, culture-led activations. The agency has delivered campaigns for brands including British American Tobacco and the Cape Union Mart Group, among others, consistently aiming to position experiential marketing as a tool for deeper connection rather than surface-level engagement, says the organisation.

"In today's world, leadership is no longer just about building successful companies," says Maclou. "It's about creating spaces where people can connect, collaborate and thrive. It's about building ecosystems that empower others and leave a legacy beyond profit."

At a time when Africa's creative economy is gaining global momentum, Maclou believes the continent's next phase of growth depends on leaders who are willing to build not only businesses, but also the infrastructure that sustains creativity, innovation and cultural expression.

This philosophy is embodied in The 3rd Space, a creative and cultural residency concept designed to bring together African and diaspora artists, entrepreneurs, thinkers and cultural leaders. The initiative exists as a platform for collaboration, mentorship, and creative development — while aimed at strengthening African ownership within the global creative economy, says the organisation.

For Maclou, entrepreneurship has never been defined by commercial success alone, but by the ability to create environments where people feel seen, supported and empowered to realise their potential.

"We often talk about building brands, but I believe we should also be talking about building culture, building communities and building opportunities," she says. "Africa has incredible talent. What we need are more spaces, platforms and institutions that allow that talent to grow, connect, and flourish."

As a business leader and mother, Maclou is equally committed to advancing conversations around women's leadership, purpose-driven entrepreneurship and sustainable pathways for future generations. Her approach aims to challenge the notion that women must choose between ambition and impact — arguing instead for a model of leadership that integrates both.

With Africa's creative industries continuing to expand their influence on global culture, Maclou believes the future will be defined by leaders who understand the value of connection, creativity and community-building at scale.

"The next generation of leadership will be defined not only by what we build for ourselves, but by what we create for others," she says. "My goal is to contribute to an Africa where creativity is valued, culture is protected and more people have access to the opportunities they deserve."
